"Every Ending Is A New Beginning"

Rev. Kathy Zavada

June 6, 2021

Everything in this world has a beginning and an ending, and if we look closely, endings bring new beginnings. We explore this thing called 'divine discontent', an inner prompting that urges us towards ever greater realization, expression and self-discovery. Can we trust and consciously move through the poignant moments in our lives where we face an ending. Can we open to new beginnings with curiosity and a creative spirit.

"The Principles of Non-Violent Communication"

May 30, 2021

It was a joy to have NVC teacher Donna Kramer share teachings on Marshall Rosenberg's non-violent communication. There are skills we can learn on how we listen to hear the need under the words, and how we speak in a way that takes personal responsibility without adding blame and judgment with the intention for deeper connection. Rosenberg was inspired by Gandhi, who taught that we must also work on passive violence, meaning the non-physical violence that can manifest in our language and the way we speak to one another. Our world would so benefit from these skills!

"Meditation & Why Meditate"

Rev. Kathy Zavada

May 18, 2021

There is something we are looking for, a deeper peace, a greater love, a sense of meaning, and a connection we know is possible, and we tend to look outside when there is such fulfillment to be found within. Meditation takes us to a place of blissful stillness, peace, communion and well being if we are willing to stop all the doing, and be still.

"A Mother's Love"

Rev. Kathy Zavada

May 9, 2021

The relationship between Mother and child is perhaps the strongest bond in this world. It is sometimes a challenging journey of a relationship between two souls and the karma and growth they share in this life. The Universal Mother is an unconditionally loving, protective, comforting energy and presence we can always invoke to help us through life challenges.

"Surrender and Non-Resistance"

Rev. Kathy Zavada

April 18, 2021

We can learn to let go often, surrender and live in non-resistance to the present moment. Living in this way is the way to live in peace, and to stop suffering. We can stop telling the story of “why I can&rsdquo;t be happy now”, and experience the peace of this present moment.

"Resurrection In Daily Life"

Rev. Kathy Zavada

April 4, 2021

Franciscan Richard Rohr wrote: “We had imagined that resurrection was just about Jesus, but it is about the Eternal Christ, who never dies, and who never dies in you! Resurrection is about the whole of creation, it is about history, it is about every human who has ever been conceived, sinned, suffered, and died, and every animal that has lived and died a tortured death, every element that has changed from solid, to liquid, to ether, over great expanses of time. It is about you and it is about me. It is about everything. The CHRIST JOURNEY is indeed another name for everything.”

"Our Search for Meaning"

Rev. Kathy Zavada

March 14, 2021

 "The Conscious Activist"

Rev. Kathy Zavada

March 7, 2021

This Sunday's Unity of Oroville talk was an exploration of what it is to be a conscious activist. How do we give a voice to what needs a voice, take a stand for wise stewardship of our planet, take a stand for what is fair and just, while not losing our peace, hope, and sleep over the slowness of change. Our world needs our activism, and through education, activation, balance, and a dose of non-attachment we can utilize greater consciousness for so much needed change.

 "On True Love"

Rev. Kathy Zavada

February 14, 2021

It is wonderful to take a deeper look at love; to consider that what keeps us alive, what allows us to endure, is the hope of loving or being loved. This talk examines how we grow in the qualities of love like understanding, compassion, forgiveness and respect, and how we love ourselves through healing and embracing the unhealed places within us. As Rumi said, our task is not so much to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers in ourselves that we’ve built against it.

 "Karma and Grace"

Rev. Kathy Zavada

February 7, 2021

This talk explores the law of action, and considers that cause and effect are a perfect means for us to learn, grow and evolve. We can mitigate karma through use of our free will and divine grace. Through family karma, collective karma, the karma of countries and personal karma, we become more aware of our actions, their effects, and what right action is. We learn to dedicate our actions to the Absolute and become free of the wheel of cause and effect. We explore how divine grace affects karma and is always available.

 "Cultivate The Good"

Rev. Kathy Zavada

January 17, 2021

God gifted us with this precious life. What we become, each day, is our gift back to our most loving creator. Let us find a million ways to cultivate the good. To express goodness! The Jewish sacred text the Talmud says, “Every blade of grass has its angel that bends over it and whispers, ‘Grow, grow.’" Examining our belief systems is essential to growth. Watering seeds of peace, understanding, communication with compassion, and non-attachment grow the goodness of our essential nature.

"No Greater Wealth Than Wisdom, No Greater Poverty Than  Ignorance"

Rev. Kathy Zavada

January 10, 2021

To evolve as individuals and as a society, we must, as Socrates suggested, frequently examine our ideas, beliefs, principles and views, to be sure we are not living our lives based on ignorance, on false ideas. To move from ignorance to greater wisdom relies on truth; telling the truth, our leaders telling the truth, and discernment in where we place our trust regarding our sources of news and information. We grow when we have the humility to examine our misperceptions and make changes towards greater alignment with truth.

Rev. Kathy Zavada

September 27, 2020

Life, people, and our own consciousness provides us with a mirror to look into and learn about ourselves. The ability to use what is reflected back to us, to grow, change, and evolve is essential for our spiritual and emotional growth. Self-reflection can be developed and bring freedom from being lost in reactiveness and conditioning; and, collective self-reflection in what is out picturing in our society can support us in forming a more perfect union.
